Production Process Engineer II

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
Supports production processing which includes but is not limited to project coordination, design engineering, installation, start-up, production support, maintenance support, and other duties, as assigned.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Developing professional expertise, applies company policies and procedures to resolve a variety of production processing issues.
  • Participates in engineering teams to design/validate new processes.
  • Participates in engineering teams to design/validate/install new equipment.
  • Makes improvements that optimize plant performance and yields.
  • Identifies and coordinates repairs to the production equipment.
  • Interacts with various plant personnel to ensure product specifications are being met.
  • Maintains a safe work environment.
  • Develops working understanding of the production process.
  • Audits machinery, processes, procedures and operations to ensure optimum performance and utilization.
  • Develops or revises Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Assists in the validation of equipment and processes to ensure they are capable of meeting product specifications.
  • Maintains general housekeeping of working area and plant.
  • Builds productive working relationships.
  • May provide assistance to lower level staff with general tasks that require a better understanding of functions, as directed by immediate supervisor.
  • May refer to senior level staff for assistance with higher level problems that may arise.
  • Escalates issues to supervisor/manager for resolution, as deemed necessary.
  • Assists with various projects as assigned by direct supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Must be able to safely climb ladders and walk up and down several flights of stairs to an elevation up to 85 feet on a daily basis. 
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 100 lbs.
  • Vision sufficient to work safely, monitor and troubleshoot equipment is required.
  • Wear personal protective equipment.

EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s Degree required.

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Minimum 2 – 5 years of related experience; with an advanced degree no prior experience may be considered.
  • Lean/Six Sigma training or certification is preferred.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, problem solving and presentation skills.
  • Experience with experimental design (DOE) preferred.
  • Ability to apply logical or scientific principles to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.,) in its most difficult phases.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, modern algebra, and advanced statistics.
  • Ability to work with concepts such as limits, curve fitting, quadratic and differential equations, unit conversions, and proofs of theorems. 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
