Globally, almost half of all kidney replacement solutions use a polysulfone dialyzer made by Fresenius Medical Care. The polysulfone filter membrane at the heart of the machine consists in a bundle of around 10,000 fibers with a superfine pore structure, providing a total filter area of 1.4 sqm. To manufacture the capillaries, innovative process engineering solutions are required. “The most significant technical solutions we have produced in recent years are nano-controlled spinning technology, micro-ondulation, and the most recently developed H-spin technology,” says Dr. Armin Lang, Production Manager Membranes. These methods allow us to considerably enhance the cleaning performance of the filter.
Fresenius Medical Care just opened a new, state-of-the-art technology center for developing dialysis machines in Schweinfurt, Germany. The building’s structure has been planned based on our cross-functional approach to engineering. “With short and direct access ways and corridors, and an open structure, the entire building is designed for networking and exchanges between different disciplines and teams. This way, we can develop even better dialysis machines for our patients,” said Johann Brede, Project Director of the Technology Center.
