Role Summary:

As Head of Market Access and Government Affairs, China, your role serves as the primary country leader for market access strategy, healthcare policy engagement, government affairs, and strategic external stakeholder management. This role will lead efforts to improve policy readiness and market access conditions for the company’s portfolio serving chronic kidney disease and acute kidney care, across hospitals and dialysis centers.

As a member of the China leadership team, this role will advise senior management on public policy developments, reimbursement and procurement changes, healthcare reforms, and government priorities that impact commercial growth, business continuity, and long-term strategic positioning.

This leader will build the function from inception, define the operating model, and serve as the key interface between the company and external institutional stakeholders.

Your Responsibilities:

Strategic Market Access Leadership

  • Define and execute integrated market access strategy across the China kidney care portfolio.
  • Lead pricing, reimbursement, and health policy strategies supporting company products portfolio ecosystem.
  • Assess impact of national and provincial healthcare reforms on business performance
  • Develop access strategies addressing reimbursement pathway optimization, tender access, centralized procurement, volume-based purchasing, public hospital policy shifts, health technology evaluation.
  • Embed market access priorities into annual commercial planning.

Government Affairs Leadership

  • Build trusted relationships with key external stakeholders.
  • Represent company interests in policy dialogue and institutional engagements.
  • Anticipate policy developments affecting pricing, reimbursement, and procurement.
  • Lead advocacy initiatives in partnership with industry associations and external stakeholders.
  • Develop policy positions and strategic recommendations for country leadership.

Corporate & External Affairs

  • Lead strategic external engagement to strengthen institutional positioning in China.
  • Build executive engagement framework with key government and healthcare stakeholders.
  • Coordinate high-level official visits involving global leadership, regional executives, etc
  • Lead preparation for senior government meetings, policy forums, and external leadership events.
  • Drive strategic participation in:
    • healthcare development initiatives,
    • renal care policy programs,
    • public-private partnerships,
    • industry coalitions.
  • Enhance company visibility as a strategic partner in advancing kidney care in China.

Business Risk & Policy Intelligence

  • Serve as China leadership team advisor on policy-related business risk.
  • Establish structured policy monitoring and intelligence systems.
  • Provide early-warning analysis on policy changes affecting market access, reimbursement, pricing, and procurement models.
  • Lead scenario planning for policy shifts.
  • Shape strategic response plans across business functions.

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Partner effectively with peer commercial functions to maximize market execution:
  • Ensure strong collaboration to support customer access, clinical adoption, and sales growth.

Your Profile:

Experience

  • 15+ years in market access, government affairs, public affairs, or healthcare policy.
  • Significant experience in the medical device or broader healthcare sector.
  • Deep understanding of China healthcare ecosystem.
  • Proven leadership engaging national and provincial authorities.
  • Strong experience in policy shaping within regulated healthcare industries.
  • Demonstrated success leading external engagement for multinational organizations.
  • Prior experience in multinational matrix organizations strongly preferred.
